Learning Products - Add Discussion Activity
A Discussion Activity:
- Lets learners who are enrolled in a particular Learning Product Section to communicate with one another.
- Can require learners to post a certain number of comments in order to achieve a completion.
- Can be graded by an instructor/administrator.
Discussion posts will be visible to all learners enrolled in the same section. If a learning product does not have separate sections, everyone enrolled will be able to post and view posts in the discussion.
- Click the button and choose the Discussion option.
- Create a Title for the Discussion activity. This will be the name of the activity that the learner sees.
- Use the Customizable By Section dropdown to control what section administrators/instructors can change in the discussion directions.
- Cannot be customized does not let administrators edit any of the dicsussion directions within their section.
- Can be customized gives section administrators the option to edit the discusion directions within their section.
- Must be customized requires a section administrator to edit the content in the directions for the learner. Until the content is edited by the admin, learners will not be able to launch the activity and view the content. They will receive an error that the section has not yet been configured by the instructor.
- The Editing Settings let you specify if learners are allowed to edit their posts after submitting them. If you allow editing, posts can only be edited before their activity is graded by an instructor. Once the activity is marked complete, the learner cannot edit their posts.
- Optionally enter a Short Description for the activity. The description will display beneath the Activity Title when a learner views enrollment details.
- Turn ON the Directions to Learner HTML button if you want to be able to set formatting, add images, or modify the HTML for the directions. Leave it set to OFF if you just want to use plain text.
- In the Directions for Learner field, provide some instructions for your learners about what they should post to the discussion thread. You can include whatever parameters necessary to guide your discussion.
- Set the Number of Posts Required that a learner must leave to achieve a completion in the activity by entering a whole number or using the arrows. If you select 0 posts, the activity will complete automatically after the learner launches it and they will not be required to participate in the discussion.
- Set the Completions Settings to Activity completes automatically after number of required posts are met if you don't want to require any action by a section administrator. Choose Requires Section Administrator to Score Posts if the section administrator needs to review and grade the required posts before the learner can achieve a completion for the activity.
- Click to save changes and exit, or to discard changes and exit.
